Belfast Harbour is a truly unique organisation with a wide variety of businesses under its remit, from traditional port operations to film studios and property development. Belfast Harbour is a Trust Port with corporate ambitions to further develop its Smart Port and Green Port credentials. To help realise this ambition, an exciting new role has been created in the Infrastructure and Sustainability Team. This role is pivotal in strengthening and developing Belfast Harbour's sustainability strategy, leading the implementation of change programmes in energy transition, decarbonisation, the environment, and marine initiatives.

The successful candidate will be an effective coach, experienced in leading a team, capable of inspiring others to deliver and an expert in key sustainability topics. The ideal candidate will act and think strategically, logically, and commercially, with strong organisation skills and exceptional communication skills and the confidence to articulate complex problems and solutions in a simple, impactful manner. A strong influencer, proactively engaging internal and external stakeholders on the sustainability agenda.

The Role

  • Drive the environmental and sustainability strategic priorities.
  • Work with key stakeholders to define immediate, medium and long term actions to meet sustainability goals.
  • Develop, lead and implement initiatives to address energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
  • Keep up to date with developments from key industry bodies, institutions, and networks, ensuring that we are best-in-class in our approach to sustainability.
  • Develop and implement company policies and procedures to deliver on sustainability goals
  • Collaborate internally to ensure a strong sustainability message resonates across the organisation and is rooted in the way we do business

The Person

  • Third level degree in engineering, science, or another relevant field.
  • 5+ years experience in a similar role with a successful track record of delivery in sustainability and leading a successful team in a commercial business environment
  • Experience in the development and implementation of Sustainability strategies and plans across infrastructure programmes.
  • Understanding and knowledge of sustainability, carbon management and climate change policy and associated science and legislation.
  • Experience in successfully managing complex change.
  • Experience in communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders across multiple areas of the business, internal and external.
