Our client, Severfield plc has become internationally synonymous with quality, innovation and unrivalled expertise within the steel industry. Today, with multiple sites in the UK and a factory in India, Severfield has an annual capacity to produce around 300,000 tonnes of fabricated steelwork. Within Northern Ireland, Severfield has a sixty-year association with the steelwork industry following its acquisition of Fisher Engineering Ltd, Enniskillen. Over many years, the business has built a powerful reputation for supplying quality constructional steel products in both the UK and Irish markets. This tremendous heritage and reputation for delivering highly specialist and very technical fabrication projects has created a significant opportunity to drive further commercial success.
Severfield is now seeking to appoint a talented Commercial Director who will play a pivotal strategic role in the identification of major growth opportunities while ensuring the commercial and contractual aspects of complex projects are properly managed and efficiently controlled to meet the demands of the business and its clients.
This Commercial Director will lead tender responses, directing pricing strategy and negotiating contracts. When a contract is secured, they have end-to-end ownership of the cashflow and profitability of each project, optimising the return for the company while maintaining strong relationships with the client. The Commercial Director will provide leadership and commercial focus to the QS team, ensuring that the team is supported to deliver a comprehensive service, while working closely with the operations teams to optimise project delivery.
Our ideal candidate will be degree educated, with at least 10 years’ experience in a senior QS or commercial role within a recognised main contractor / sub-contractor. You will have a detailed understanding of how to drive value on construction contracts and bring an engaging leadership style that empowers, builds capability and creates a high performing team within a culture of accountability. There is significant scope to further develop systems and processes to reduce costs. Therefore, a continuous improvement philosophy and experience of transformation will be important. As this is a key leadership team appointment you will have a strong voice in commercial strategy discussions and must have a detailed appreciation of the market opportunity for Severfield in GB, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
While being part of a plc, the NI business continues to operate with a strong sense of the family values which founded the business. Those values shape the positive culture that exists today. This culture, complemented by the impressive heritage, plc ownership, and significant further growth ambitions, make this a most exciting director level appointment. The role offers an attractive remuneration and benefits package that is designed to attract a candidate of the highest calibre.
