The Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland is the regulatory and professional body for pharmacists in Northern Ireland and maintains a register of over 2,800 pharmacists, 140 pre-registration trainees and over 550 pharmacy premises across Northern Ireland. As the regulatory body it protects patients and public safety through: setting standards for pharmacists’ admission to the register, maintaining a public register of pharmacists and pharmacy premises, handling concerns in relation to the Fitness to Practice of registrants and ensuring high levels of education and training for Pharmacists in Northern Ireland.

The Society is seeking to appoint to this role following the announcement of the retirement of the incumbent Chief Executive.

This vacancy arises at a time of considerable opportunity and change. Becoming Chief Executive at this time presents the opportunity to lead a great organisation through an exciting new phase, developing a new Corporate Strategy and driving the Society towards the achievement of ambitious goals at a time of significant change in health and social care.

The Chief Executive will provide inspirational leadership to a well-established team, ensuring that the Society is equipped to operate in an agile way to meet emerging and future statutory responsibilities in regulation and the future development of the pharmacy profession.

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior manager with a track record of delivering business change and effectively managing financial resources. They will also be a skilled negotiator who can influence various stakeholders including those at a regional and national level.

This is a most exciting opportunity to lead an organisation that has a critical role to play in society. It offers a competitive remuneration package, but most importantly, the potential to make a significant contribution to safeguarding public and patient safety.
